Manage CRPS With These Simple Health Suggestions

Chronic pain can interfere with every aspect of daily life, making it difficult to feel like your best self. For sufferers of CRPS, or Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome, it’s important to find ways to elevate your mental health each day as well as take care of your body so you can easily manage your pain. Fortunately there are many resources available that can help you and your loved ones learn more about this disorder and how to navigate everyday life around it, such as the CRPS Warriors Foundation. There are also a few things you can do to alleviate stressors at home and at work so you can feel better each day.

Do something for yourself

Some of the biggest stressors that most people experience occur at work, and eliminating that stress can help you focus on your health. If your current job has become overwhelming or if you feel you aren’t able to move up, consider going back to school. These days there are tons of online degree programs available so you can work at your own pace, and you’ll have a whole new set of options opened up to you career-wise. Do some research ahead of time to ensure that the school you choose is accredited, and ask about competitive tuition rates with other schools. With several programs to choose from, you can make this a move that’s just for you and focus on your goals in the near-future.

Maximize your sleep routine

When it comes to setting goals and doing things for yourself, it can be challenging when you aren’t getting good rest. Several aspects of your physical and mental health are affected by how you’re sleeping, so if you’re having trouble in that area, it’s time to make the most of your routine and environment. Before bedtime, take a hot shower or bath, turn off your devices, and put on some comfortable sleepwear. Make sure the temperature in your bedroom is optimal and that your bedding is soft.

If you know you’ll have a busy day coming up, lay out your clothing for the next morning and set out anything else you’ll need so you’ll have peace of mind that you’re prepared. These are all forms of self-care that can help you feel more in control of your body and your schedule.

Get moving

Like good rest, activity can help you reset your physical and mental health and help you feel better. For those with CRPS, symptoms vary from person to person, so it’s important to talk to a professional who can help you map out a plan for your wellness. A physical therapist can be incredibly helpful, as can a trainer who will work with you to figure out what your needs are.

Be mindful about nutrition

Eating well is a major part of taking care of your body, but it can be hard to do when you’re busy or dealing with mental health issues. Make it easier on yourself by looking for healthy replacements for foods you enjoy that aren’t so great for you and customizing them, and do some research on foods that are recommended for pain management. Keep in mind that you don’t have to do a complete diet overhaul, but rather make small changes that will have a big impact.

Taking care of yourself in order to look and feel your best can be challenging at first, but by establishing a routine that works for you, the process will get a little easier each day. Look for support from friends, family, and organizations that can provide useful resources.
